THE CENTENNIAL OF THE SCIENCE INSTITUTE IN AGUASCALIENTES (1867-1967): Its history and transcendence in education, culture and society
Synopsis
In 2020, the Autonomous University of Aguascalientes received a donation from the family of José Padilla Cambero, an album with documents of the events that were organized on the occasion of the celebration of the Centennial of the Autonomous Institute of Sciences and Technologies (IACT) in Aguascalientes in 1967. Mr. Padilla Cambero (Aguascalientes 1936-2002), in addition to having been a student at the Institute itself, as well as a mathematics teacher there, in 1967 had in his hands the task of organizing the commemoration of its “first hundred years” (as they called it in the committee), through different events in various spaces in the state capital. In the content of the album it is possible to appreciate the enthusiasm and dedication with which each celebration was planned.
This album constitutes an extraordinary viewpoint due to its formal richness, the documents scrupulously arranged by its author, and its visual and rhetorical content that allows us to establish links between the private, that is, what it meant to decide to keep the invitations, the cultural programs, the event tickets, and more, with the public, which was precisely everything that happened in the city of Aguascalientes around the academic, cultural, and political events that took place for the hundredth anniversary of the Institute. Some of the questions that have arisen about who designed and created the album have been answered in part by the donating family, who stated that it could have been the wife of Mr. Padilla Cambero, Mrs. Luz María de Anda (Aguascalientes, 1940-2017), given that the conservation and organization of photographs, documents, and papers of special moments was always important to her. However, it remains doubtful whether Mr. Padilla himself could have decided, due to his important work as one of the organizers of the centenary, to arrange in the album the evidence that seemed most important to him about what happened during the celebrations.
