Synopsis

This text is divided into two phases. The first phase proposes a methodological approach for obtaining stoneware ceramic pastes applicable to the design and development of utilitarian and ornamental objects through experimental models that allow for the qualitative and quantitative estimation of plasticity, shrinkage, porosity, and deformation parameters demanded by the ceramics industry. This manual explains the use of the triaxial method and the method of adding materials, consisting of the proportional calculation of materials that make up a stoneware paste and slip; it explains the analysis method so that the resulting formulations are subjected to the aforementioned parameters to select those with the best results, used to produce objects through manual modeling, turning, and molding processes, in both the pedagogical and professional fields. The second phase consists of the use of experimental methods for the development of stoneware ceramic glazes to be used as finishes on ceramic pieces. The technique for creating catalogs and recording glazes with characteristics of gloss, hue, transparency, opacity, color, and texture is provided. The aim is to provide the information, means, and techniques to measure quantitative and qualitative parameters in the design and development of stoneware pieces, guaranteeing process and material control to ensure the expected results.
