Synopsis

This fictional story was born as a result of documentary research in the Historical Archive of the State of Aguascalientes. It was intended to complement a documentary video about the murals in the State Government Palace, coordinated by Dr. Luciano Ramírez Hurtado. The author searched the newspapers dated April 3, 1962, for everything related to the murder of Concepción Arvizu, owner of the casino and palenque in Aguascalientes. He found eight-column headlines on the front page of the two local newspapers and a black-and-white photograph, if not the same, then almost identical, in which Naco, Concepción Arvizu's nickname, could be seen on the floor in a pool of blood. Of course, he searched the newspapers from later dates, and for several days, it remained front-page news. He also looked at newspapers from earlier dates to give context to the story, and that's when he found another crime that had also made the front page at the time, but in the crime section: the murder of a prostitute from the La India Bonita bar in La Chueca, the red-light district in Aguascalientes at the time.

The bar was run by Consuelo Elías, known as Pelos de Oro, who was also another character in the murals and, therefore, in the documentary video. In the writing of this novel, these two facts are the only strictly historical ones. Everything else, actors and circumstances, are works of fiction, although also based mainly on history and oral tradition. The names of most of the characters are similar to those of real people, but their behaviors, including those of the main characters, are the product of the plot and not of reality. Some may fall short in terms of their wickedness, while others may have been seen at the time as truly immeasurably good. In any case, it must be said that any resemblance to reality is purely coincidental, or that reality always surpasses fiction.
